It's meant to be good luck to see a church spire from your window. One such spire, and the ocean, can be seen from a three-bedroom split-level apartment at 9/11 Berwick Street, Coogee. Its location, in a quiet cul-de-sac, is a coup for Coogee, known for its noise. On week two of the open house, about 23 groups wandered through the flat, due to go to auction next Saturday through McGrath agent Adrian Bo. The block of nine was built in 1998 and Australian Property Monitors shows these owners, who have replaced the carpet with floorboards, paid $625,000 in 2001. The price guide now is more than $850,000.THE CROWD WAS Young professionals and couples wanting to upgrade.UPSIDES The ocean and church spire views.DOWNSIDES It's a long way to the top (several flights of stairs).OVERHEARD"I like the privacy"; "It's a nice space, the light is good"; "nice but not film-star stuff".DESIGN IDEAS I MIGHT NICK The built-in box-seat under the living room skylight.OUTSIDE INTEREST The Buddha-ed balcony is billed as pet-friendly, though it would need to be a miniature one.IN THE 'HOODQuick stroll to Coogee Beach and cafes.POINT OF INTEREST Nice downstairs teen, tenant or parent retreat with its own en suite.Helen Pitt
